Area Police
Around fifty cars have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Police state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued liquid.
The liquid had been applied in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then located numerous other marked vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police state preliminary tests show the substance was probably human blood.
"There is still no clue as to its source; officials are not yet aware of any physical harm in relation with the occurrence," they stated.
Local authorities stated they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the community for information.
A high-ranking official commented the incident left him stunned and had to be solved quickly.
"This act affects the core of Hanau and reopens the pain of the extremist attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, mentioning the death of nine victims by a gunman focusing on people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
